At last…

my orchid blooms have come along.  Okay, bad lyrical reference. Sorry, and apologies to Etta James, but that’s how happy my dendrobium has made me! Just look!

The photos do not do it justice. I may have to design a beadwork pattern for it. The shading is wonderful.

New bracelet, Filigrana by Melinda Barta.

And speaking of beadwork. I finally got back into some beading. This is the Filigrana pattern by TrendSetter Melinda Barta. It was a pattern that is included with a shipment of beads from Red Panda Beads. They are a great online shop. They always ship very quickly and have a great selection of beads.

I also finished a repair/restringing of an antique necklace last week. It took a long while to find and get shipped the mother of pearl beads that were the same size and a close enough match to the little shells. They came from China.

Cindy, of Cindy’s Crafts in Johnson City TN, really came through for me in finding a match for the tiny seed beads. They are a garnet color which I didn’t think would be hard to match, but they were. I emailed Cindy and she searched and found two possibilities. I bought both tubes of rocailles and, hooray! one matched. Close enough, anyway.Thank you, Cindy! You see, the old seed beads are cut similar to 13/0 Charlottes only with a few more facets, but they were the size of 11/0 beads. They are really beautiful and interesting. I wish they were in production today.

Antique necklace restrung and fabulous.

The shells still had sand in them. I used a really fine beading needle and beading thread and barely got it through some of them. Some of them cut the thread. I have no idea how the original beader got the heavy thread they used through them.

As you can probably see in the photo on the left, the necklace was not the same on both sides. I left it that way when I restrung it. I thought it should be kept in the same aspect as the original. I love doing these projects. I hope the new owner, granddaughter of the original owner, loves it too.

Fun New Hat this Week

Eiko’s linen got into a new project this week. I fashioned a brand new hat, my own pattern, and I think it turned out pretty well. There are a few tweaks I’ll make to the pattern next time. I made a detachable flower pin out of scraps. Isn’t the fringey effect great?  This hat is floppy and casual, but fun. (Please ignore the white bag peeking out from underneath the hat. I had to pad the glass head.)

Please excuse the underpad on the floor. I have a little old lady dog who leaks when she sits and that’s her favorite place.

I’m tempted to keep this one, but it’s going into the Owl Tree shop.  Maybe I’ll keep the next one. Maybe.

There were some little visitors to my porch the last couple of weeks. Enjoy!

A new toad has moved to the neighborhood.
This is a brave moth. He was near not one, but two, orb webs. Aren’t they pretty?

Web Store is up for AACC

The eShop I’ve been working on for a week is up and (as far as I can tell) working! It’s great to have it all done, and I think I did all right for my first effort at setting up the shopping cart. (Knock on wood) You can find it here.

You can tell the birds are nesting by the disarray of my basketry ball full of scrap llama fur. One little titmouse has been pulling it out by the beakful almost continuously.

Our bluebird house has a family nesting in it. I like to think that they enjoy the peonies and clematis growing underneath.

Tomorrow is grandbaby-sitting again. My ribs are acting up again from when I fell and cracked them. I think I messed them up again while cleaning out my pond filter, but the fish and frogs and dragonflies are well worth it. Just wish I could breathe. Hope I can dance tomorrow.

One happy dendrobium

It’s been raining here like crazy and I set my dendrobium
aggregatum out on the deck rail. It’s in heaven! It’s sneaking out some tiny little spikes. I hope they’re flower spikes! My phalaenopsis, which I almost killed last year, is doing much better in its little candy jar greenhouse. It has grown a lot and has healthy new roots.

My miniature phal is blooming like mad on two flower stalks. It likes its sun tea jar and west window.
