Blue Moon….

Blue moon, you saw me sewing alone! Sorry for the cheesy stuff. (Not really sorry. That’s just me.) It reminds me of the mice on Babe. I love those little critters.

I’ve been busy. I’m also feeling much better. We were in the ER last Friday, but not for me, because Husband dislocated three toes. He forgot to put the kickstand down on his motorcycle and it fell on his left foot. Got his three littler toes. It hasn’t slowed him down very much though. 

In the meantime, I’m doing a lot more since I can actually breathe now. I got a dress and 3 pairs of shorts made for the grandkids who are going to Hawaii later this month. Lucky kids! 


This is the Piper dress from Violette Field Threads. I have to admit that I saw this made in this fabric on Facebook and then bought the same fabric to make it, but isn’t it perfect? It’s Sleeping Porch Wild Flowers on Pink by Heather Ross for Windham Fabrics. 

Our girly girl will love it. My only concern is how much the fabric wrinkles, but I guess perfection even has some wrinkles, right?

 

These shorts were made using a girl’s shorts pattern. I had to take quite a bit off the sides and probably should have taken more. Then, after they were finished, I decided they were too short for a boy and had to add length. I think they turned out pretty well considering.

The ones on top have fish on them and the bottom ones have trains. I added length on the trains shorts by adding some engineer’s cap fabric. The boy is train-crazy. I know he’ll love these. 


And these little ones were made from a thrift store knit shirt. Love these. I can just see him running up and down the sand in these. He’s our little blur. The only time he slows down is to build something or ride in his little car with sister pushing. Sometimes, though, he acts like a little old man. Now and then he answers questions with hands in pockets and a drawn out, “Yeaaaaaaah.” 

Miss Marple’s Hat

I’m a mystery addict. I love all mysteries, but I’ll always go with an Agatha Christie if there is one available. So, when I found the BBC Miss Marple series, of course, I tuned in. I was into the show, but then

               BAM

There it was.

This little dusty-blue felt hat that just blew me away. Sitting there on Miss Jane Marple’s head. The details are wonderful. I tried to get a good picture of it by photographing the TV with my camera phone. You probably know how that goes. TV screens and cameras don’t mix very well. I did manage to get the vague idea recorded. It’s a good thing I knew the plot already because I lost all focus on the show. All I could do was hope I would see that hat in upcoming scenes. Luckily she wears it quite often. See, Miss Marple thinks it’s wonderful too! 

I WANT TO MAKE ONE! I WANT TO MAKE ONE FROM FELT AND I WANT TO FORM IT AND PUT THE REVERSE SCALLOP EDGE ON IT AND LITTLE PERFORATIONS IN THE POINTS AND THE CUTE BOW THINGY.

I’m not sure I have that skill set quite yet, but I really want to make that little hat! And even though I may lack some skills, I will apply myself to MAKING THAT HAT! 

I won’t get to wear it because I look horrible in low crowns like this one, but the fun is in the creation, right? I’ll keep you updated on the process. Keep your fingers crossed.

Argh! What to do? What to do?

I have a dilemma. I already have almost half a quilt pieced together, but I’m not sure I can live with the dark squares in it. It’s a Storm at Sea pattern, so it’s not so easy to take apart and fix, but it’s definitely doable. My dear, one-and-only granddaughter said she wanted a pink quilt with hearts. This is about as pink as I can stand. I do not like pink. I like coral fine, but being 7 years old, she loves the unicorn-type pink. The little girls and princesses and pink bunnies and cotton candy pink. The pink that I never liked, even as a little kid. 

So, here is my dilemma; should I leave the darker squares in, or take them out because they detract from the hearts effect?

Sorry that the picture above is washed out on the left. That’s where the floor lamp is. I think you can see the effect I was going for and the way the darker blocks make it sort of look like a bow.  Granddaughter will see it tomorrow, so I guess she’ll make the decision for me, but I would like some feedback if you have an opinion. Take them out and make lighter ones or leave it as is? 

Addendum: Dear Granddaughter came today and gave the thumbs-up to the design. I think she likes the individual fabrics better than the heart shapes. It was pink enough and she liked the fabric with girls, bunnies and balloons and the fabric with girls and horses. I have a few more surprises for her, like teacups on a pink background. Glad she likes it so far.
